Bringing Military Families Home

About MILLIE

MILLIE does more than help military families move from base to base. We are a state of mind. We believe in the strength of military families. We are Doers. Supporters. Friends. Spouses. Positive thinkers. It’s time that we own the moving experience rather than having it own us.

MILLIE is an online community and digital marketplace that connects members of an underserved market with specialized knowledge and trusted agents to remove the stress and anxiety
of the military moving process.

What does MILLIE mean?

In deciding the name of this company, we never expected to land on ‘MILLIE’. We tried several names related to moving that had military themes, but they all felt forced and inauthentic. But MILLIE was open, welcoming, and undefined. It comes with a slight play off of the word ‘military’, but with a feminine touch. It conveys trust and compassion but, more importantly, it is open to interpretation. In a way, it is perfect for military spouses—each of us on our own journey and defining our own path.

The Story

Co-Founders Ken Robbins and Jason Dempsey are both retired Veterans. After 20 years of active duty, they both experienced buying real estate during military moves and saw a consistent flaw in the process. Military families often moved to entirely new places, and had to rely on real estate agents who might not have any idea of what it means to PCS. Ken and Jason knew that a network of vetted Veteran and military spouse Realtors would offer much needed comfort and security. Armed with a new mission, they built AgentHero, a broker-agnostic network of 250 real estate agents (and growing).

When Ken and Jason came across Lauren Rothlisberger and Amy Shick with their company Military Property Project (MPP), they knew they had a lot in common and could develop a great partnership. But after a couple months something bigger began to hatch. Both MPP and AgentHero were essential foundation pieces, but there was more we could do to help military families relocate. They could all broaden the spectrum and help families from the very beginning of their move and so MILLIE was born.

MILLIE is helping military families build a connection with their next duty station with powerful images, accurate information, and real life opinions. With the right tools and curated content military families can make essential decisions, such as finding the right neighborhoods and schools for their family. We will give them the 360-degree view from 1000s of miles away. It is a huge undertaking, and it will take time. But today is the first step towards that goal.

MILLIE has spent hundreds of hours curating online installation guides for over 70 military installations—offered free to military families. MILLIE hires local military spouses to help build these guides, including photographers, graphic artists, and focus groups. In its first year, MILLIE has tackled some of the military’s largest and most complex markets including the Washington, D.C. metro region, San Diego, and the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
