HOW TO FIND A RENTAL

RESEARCH. COMPARE. VALIDATE

Ideally you can line up your next rental property before you even arrive at your next duty station. Before you jump in and lay down a deposit check, follow our steps below to ensure you are making an informed decision.

COMPARE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD OPTIONS

Whether you are planning on living on the installation, buy a home, or renting a house or apartment the first step is doing a little research. We recommend you start big and compare neighborhoods you are doing side-by-side house comparison.

In order to make the most educated decision you need to research, compare, and then consider hiring a Scout to validate if you cannot be there in person.

MILLIE offers comprehensive Neighborhood Guides across hundreds of bases and posts.

From Base to Post, we’ve got you covered.

COMPARE YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD OPTIONS

Map Out Your “Pattern of Life”

Step One: Take a piece of computer paper and draw three circles with times.

Step Two: Put an X in the middle. This will represent the service member’s place of work. Add cardinal directions and label a couple of key areas as they relate to the X.

Step Three: Use the symbols below and your personal research to place the icons in the appropriate place on the “dartboard.”

Step Four: Take a look at your whole picture. Do you see any clusters? Are there any areas you are going to spend a lot of time in? Time that into consideration when comparing neighborhoods.
